New leaves distorted and yellow, foliage and stems covered in sooty mould, insects crowded on young leaves and shoots.
Solution
Foliage develops a bronze discolouration down the central midrib of the leaf.
Solution
Leaves turning yellow or brown in the margins between the veins which may remain green, while young leaves may appear to be bleached.
Solution
The disease starts as pale marks on coloured petals and brown marks on white petals. The spots enlarge rapidly and by the end of the day, the whole flower has collapsed into a brown, mushy mess.
Solution
Avoid overhead watering. Remove affected flowers and bin them.
White patches on stems or pink or brown raised dome like structures on leaves and stalks about 3-5mm.
Solution
Black sooty growth covering any part of the leaf, stem or branch of plants. Caused by the presence of sap-sucking insects on the plants such as aphids, scale and mealybugs.
Solution
Identify and treat the sap-sucking pests with suitable insecticide and the sooty mould will eventually fade away.
Thrips suck the sap, leaving a white mottled appearance on leaves. Other symptoms are browning on petals and fruit, and flower drop.
Solution
Yellow mottling or bronzing of the leaves similar to lace bug damage. Significant distortion of flower and leaf buds. Fine webbing can be seen on heavy infestations.
Solution
Wilting and stunting of new shoots. Can cause silvering and yellowing of leaves (eg. squash) and uneven ripening of tomatoes and sometimes plant death. Sooty mould often accompanies large numbers of white flies as they excrete honeydew when feeding on plant tissue.
