How to grow Stevia in a garden
- Choose a full sun position with light fertile soil. Boost nutrient levels by adding Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone with Seaweed.
- Sow seeds direct or propagate cuttings direct to the soil or in seed trays. Use Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix or a propagation mix.
- Water moderately. When seeds emerge or cuttings produce roots, use a liquid feed to help growth. Use Yates Thrive Natural Fish Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate.
- Harvest when plants are a good size. Store and dry leaves for the winter.
How to grow Stevia in a pot
- Choose a full sun position. Size of the pot needs to start at 200 mm, add a good free draining potting mix like Yates Premium Potting Mix.
- Sow seeds direct or plant cuttings, making sure there is plenty of space between plants. Use some Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix to cover seeds.
- Water on a regular basis and once the plants have germinated or taken root, thin them out and use Yates Thrive Natural Fish Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate weekly to promote growth.
- Harvest plants when they are a suitable size. They can be semi-deciduous in winter. Leaves can be taken and dried out to use later.
Growing tips
- Plants like to grow in a moist soil. Will take dry soil once established.
- Protect from frost in winter.
- Take cuttings through summer for propagation.
