If you haven’t got any ‘thyme’ for anything, then grow some! This herb makes an attractive ground cover and is also perfect for flavouring stock, stuffing and sauces. Give it full sun, well drained soil and once it’s established, thyme won’t need much attention at all.


How to grow thyme in a garden

  1.  Choose a sunny spot with well drained soil. Enrich the soil with Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone with Seaweed
  2.  Sow seeds direct and cover with Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. Firm down and water well.  
  3. As seedlings grow, thin out to 25cm apart and feed weekly with Yates Thrive Natural Fish Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate.  
  4. Mulch around the base of the plant with organic mulch like pea or lucerne straw to retain moisture.
  5. Pick leaves regularly to encourage more growth. 

     


How to grow thyme in a pot

  1. Choose a pot at least 300mm wide and deep. Position in full sun and fill with quality potting mix, such as Yates Premium Potting Mix
  2. Sow seeds and lightly cover with Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. Water in well. 
  3. As seedlings grow, thin out to 25cm apart and feed weekly with Yates Thrive Natural Fish Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate.  
  4. Pick leaves regularly to encourage more growth.
