Breathe life into your indoor areas with a ‘happy plant’ (Dracaena fragrans). Also called corn plants, they're hardy plants with attractive long arching leaves growing from the top of bare thick woody stems.

  3. Remove the plant from the container, gently tease the roots.
  4. Position in pot and backfill with potting mix, gently firming down. Water in well.
  5. Water regularly to keep the soil lightly moist.
  6. Feed fortnightly from spring to autumn with Yates Thrive Indoor Liquid Plant Food.

How to grow a happy plant in a garden

  1. Choose a well drained, shaded spot in the garden and prepare the planting area well by digging in some Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone with Seaweed
  2. Dig the planting hole twice as wide and to the same depth as the root-ball. Remove the plant from the container, gently tease the roots.
  3. Position in hole and backfill with soil, gently firming down. Form a raised or doughnut shaped ring of soil around the outer edge of the plant's root zone. This helps keep water where it's needed. Always water in well after planting to settle the soil around the roots and keep the soil moist for several weeks while the new plant establishes.
  4. Mulch lightly with an organic mulch, such as bark chips, woodchip or pea straw and water in well.
  5. Water once or twice a week, depending on weather conditions to keep the soil lightly moist.
  6. Feed fortnightly from spring to autumn with Yates Thrive Indoor Liquid Plant Food or use a Yates Thrive Indoor Plants & Ferns Dripper which feeds for 4 weeks.

Growing tips

  • Happy plant stems that grow too tall can be cut back to the desired height. New leaves will grow from below the cut.

  •  Happy plants can stay in the same pot for several years.
