The Madagascar Dragon tree is a slow growing hardy plant that’s suitable for a brightly lit spot indoors or frost free spot outdoors.


How to grow madagascar dragon tree in a garden

  1. In temperate to warm climates, choose a spot outdoors that has well drained soil and is protected from harsh afternoon sun. Prepare the planting area well by digging in some Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone with Seaweed.
  2. Dig a hole in the prepared area, place the plant in the bottom of the planting hole, gently backfill around the plant’s root ball with soil and then water well.
  3. Allow the soil to almost completely dry out in between waterings.
  4. Reapply Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone with Seaweed around the root zone each spring and autumn to promote good soil quality and healthy foliage growth.

     

 

How to grow madagascar dragon tree in a pot

  1. Choose a spot indoors that is well lit but away from direct sunlight.
  2. Fill the pot with Yates Thrive Indoor Plants Potting Mix as this has been specially formulated to suits indoor plants. It’s a lightweight mix with plenty of added organic fertiliser.
  3. Remove the plant from the container, gently tease the roots and cut away any circled or tangled roots.
  4. Position in hole and backfill with potting mix, gently firming down. Water in well keeping the water away from the leaves. 
  5. Allow the potting mix to almost completely dry out in between waterings. 
  6. Feed fortnightly during the warmer months (spring to autumn) with Yates Thrive Indoor Liquid Plant Food.

Growing tips

  • Remove yellow leaves from the base of the stems. 

  • Water only when the soil or potting mix has almost completely dried out. Overwatering can kill your Madagascar Dragon Tree. 

  • Dust leaves regularly by wiping with damp cloth. 

  • Repot every few years as required. 

  • Stems can be trimmed back to keep the plant more compact.

  • This plant can be toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.
