A gorgeously perfumed Old World favourite, Heliotrope is named for its habit of turning to face the sun. The Victorians adored its heady, sensuous fragrance for their nosegays, a rich, sweet blend of cherries, vanilla and almond. Also known as cherry pie plant, it produces velvety clusters of tiny deep blue-violet blooms.
Sow direct where they are to grow or into trays of Yates® Black Magic® Seed Raising Mix. Firm down, water gently and keep moist through germination period. Transplant or thin out when large enough to handle.
Choose a sunny, well drained position. Mix Yates® Thrive® Natural Blood & Bone into soil before planting, and feed regularly with Yates® Thrive® Flower & Fruit Soluble Fertiliser. Protect from snails and slugs.
Prune back 'leggy' growth to keep mature plants compact. Not suitable for planting around grazing livestock - toxic to horses and ruminants. Do not allow children or pets to ingest heliotrope as it may have toxic effects.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct Sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
