Originally bred by Yates in Tasmania in the 1920s, Derwent Globe produces deep red, globe-shaped roots. Flesh is deliciously tender, juicy and sweet. Fast maturing, and grows all year round in most climates. Enjoy it raw in summer salads, or baked to perfection in a winter roast.
Each "seed" is a cluster of 1-4 true seeds in a corky outer coating. Soak for two hours before sowing to ensure water penetrates to seeds. Sow direct where they are to grow or in trays of Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. When 3-5cm tall, separate clustered seedlings and transplant.
Grow in a Sunny well-drained position. Apply Yates Thrive Fish Blood & Bone Liquid Plant Food regularly, and keep seedlings well watered. Make successive sowings every few weeks. Protect from snails and slugs with Yates Blitzem.
Great companion plant for Beans, broccoli, lettuce, onions, potatoes and peas. Pick young leaves and add to salad mixers.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct Sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
