This heirloom chilli from South America is the traditional main ingredient in ground cayenne pepper. Delicious fresh or dried, Long Red Cayenne is a perfect everyday chilli to add a spicy zest to salads, stir-fries, soups, pickles and salsas. These glossy bright red chillies are rated at a medium-hot 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units. The compact bush produces an abundant crop, and is great in pots.
Sow direct in warm conditions or raise in trays of Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. Firm down and keep moist. Transplant when 6cm high. Early sowings should be covered with glass, as warmth is needed for germination.
Choose a Sunny, well-drained position. Before sowing apply Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone. Frequent picking encourages more fruit. Begin picking when green or, for hotter taste, harvest when red. Protect from snails and slugs.
Great companion plant for basil, marjaram and parsley. After handling seed or fruit, wash hands well to avoid irritating skin or eyes.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct Sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
