Finally we have got our kumara planted.
We're a little late this year. The last few years we have had them in the ground by the end of October, but this year we've been waiting for the broad beans to finish as we had earmarked their spot for the kumara. I pulled the last of the beans during the week and then layed some weed mat on the square of garden. Once again we will grow them in tyres... we had success with this last year.
This year, for the first time I have sprouted my own kumara slips from a store bought couple of kumara thanks to inspiration from Northland Backyard Gardener - I'm so excited to see if they work out.
We were forecast heavy rain this afternoon, but it was lovely and SH had a half day at work, I finished at lunchtime and we set to and filled the tyres with compost, a little potato fertiliser and got those babies in the ground. The heavy rain arrived about an hour ago - perfect for bedding them in.
Kumara like the warmth and today our high was 24 and we're expecting mid 20's for the next week at least. I feel like we are giving them every opportunity to get settled in. Fingers crossed.
