So I got really excited about cabbages this year as ours were starting to form heads. I've never beem successful with growing good cabbages so looked like my luck was changing.
That was until I pulled back leaf after leaf only to discover that I had grown some pretty cool slug hotels.
Normally I would be gutted about the wasted effort but having chickens brings a new perspective. Now any failures go to the girls and I'm excited about being able to give them a fresh cabbage with juicy treats inside. In return they bring my joy and eggs. They love a cabbage piñata!
If anyone is successful with cabbages I'd love to know how you keep the slugs and snails out. Is it a case of using slug bait regularly around the base or is there some other trick. Seems that once they are in they hide in the layers.
