It's been quite a few years since I have grown climbing peas. I have grown dwarf peas for at least the past five years and they have provided us (and mostly our grandkids) with delicious juicy peas raw from the pod or occasionally cooked. I got some climbing peas in my prize pack from Yates last year and thought I'd give them a go up one of our arches - the other arch is hosting our sweet peas.
So far they are looking good, plenty of growth but no flowers yet, I'm looking forward to seeing how tall they will get and how well they will fruit.
Also in this photo to the right is a row of our first radishes - yum - and next to that our Pukekohe Long Keeper Onions protected by a cover from our digging cats. Straight ahead is a new espalier, another Packhams Triumph pear just starting to blossom, and to the left of that is a lemon geranium bush. I love the scent of that when I walk past and brush it with my legs.
We've had a lot of rain over the past week so everything is well watered but I'm over it now and would be happy to see some spring sunshine.
