THE time has come for the potatoes to finally go into the ground.
Seed potatoes ha e been hitting away and are about a cm long. Each potatoes has been cleaned to 2 nice thick shoots, and left to cure for a week. A row of Dolce Vita and Agria are the main crop potatoes and the are a row of each. In front of those are Apache, great for summer salads,, as well as roasting. The early variety is Columba and that is a half row. The rest of the row is some Vivaldi that I grew over Autumn and kept these to grow.. There is also a bed of mixed small different colour potatoes that have naturalised in the garden and pop up everywhere 😂.. They are great eaten as new potatoes.
One of the rewards of uncovering the winter compost covered bed and cleaning it up is all the little potatoes that have grown over he winter.. Free and effortlessly grown, skins so sot that vigorous washing peels them.. Boiled in salt water, butter, rubbed rosemary that was dried over winter, and sea salt flakes.... A little freshly ground black pepper.... Yummy!
