To celebrate our 140th year in the seed business, we're excited to bring back some old, old favourites from our archives!
Sweet, tender and crisp, this petite heirloom lettuce has been a popular choice dating back to the 1800’s. Easy to grow and versatile – suitable for planting in gardens (even tiny ones), raised beds or pots. Heat tolerant and fast maturing, ideal for succession planting. Delightful addition to salads, sandwiches, or wraps.
Sow direct where the plants are to grow or raise in trays of Yates Black Magic® Seed Raising Mix. Firm down and keep moist. Transplant when 3-4 cm high.
Plant in a well-drained, sunny position adding Yates Thrive® Natural Garden Lime and Yates Thrive® Natural Blood & Bone to the soil before planting. Water regularly and feed weekly with Yates Thrive® Natural Fish Seaweed + Plant Food. Make successive sowings every few weeks. Water at base of plant, rather than overhead, to minimise risk of disease. Protect from snails and slugs.
Can pick individual outer leaves or harvest whole. Great to grow with other salad ingredients such as basil, tomatoes, cucumber, parsley, beetroot, radish and carrots.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct Sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
