Saturday was the mad dash around our back yard, piling up the outdoor chairs, putting the BBQ in the garage, checking the stakes in the broad beads are in far enough and tucking a bit more pea straw around my veggies (which have mainly gone to flower, but I still wanted to keep them cosy!)
We’re now 3 days into the ‘polar blast’ for the South Island, and I know that there are a few more days left, but so far Christchurch has fared amazingly well.
Again, it is a good reminder to not get too excited and plant my heat lovers outside - while labour day is creeping closer for one of the traditional tomato planting dates… Canterbury Anniversary is our one down here… which is a whole 2 months away! I’m not sure I can wait!
The good thing is having the glasshouse for the first time this year, I’ll be able to get some of my heat lovers going properly in there… but as you can see in the photo, they are still getting some TLC being brought in when I know the night is going to chill down - in the case of last night it was -2 in the glasshouse, but the ice on the bird bath wasn't too thick :)
We've had a frosty start, but already today is a beautiful day! Hopefully I’ll get to planting some more seeds and pricking out :)
